Walking section competitors cross the Clyde Dam after starting  the 10km Clyde to Alex race on Saturday.

About 240 people took part in the 49th annual Alexandra Harriers and Walking Club  event,  which also offered a 10km run, 6km walk, 6km run, 4km off-road and 2km off-road categories.

Entrants in the 10km walk and run categories, which both started at the Clyde Dam, said the blustery conditions and spray from Lake Dunstan at the start  did not detract from the event and they loved the novelty of being able to walk and run across the dam.

The 10km run section was won by Christchurch man Daniel Balchin, in 29 minutes 25 seconds.
