Fallen pole not Aurora's but part of SDHB network

A power pole that fell down at Dunstan Hospital on Tuesday night is part of a Southern District Health Board (SDHB) network and not maintained by Aurora Energy, an Aurora spokesman says.

Little else is known about the pole or what caused its failure.

The pole fell about 9pm on Tuesday and a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said electricity contractors dealt with the wires.

An Aurora spokesman said Aurora ''took electricity to the pole'', but did not maintain it, as it came under the hospital/health board umbrella.

Acting CEO of Central Otago Health Services Ltd, which operates Dunstan Hospital, Debi Lawry, said the pole took power to a building for mental health, public health and dialysis services.
