Heavy rain causes flash flooding in Roxburgh

Heavy rain is causing flash flooding in Roxburgh this afternoon.

Crews from the Roxburgh Volunteer Fire Brigade are attending flooding events at four different properties in the Central Otago township.

Southern Communications Centre shift manager Andrew Norris said blocked drains and gutters had caused some flooding at the Roxburgh Area School, Teviot Valley Rest Home, the Roxburgh Bowling Club and one other property.

Firefighters were assisting the property owners with clearing the water, he said.

The NZ Transport Authority is advising motorist take caution on State Highway 8 between Raes Junction and Alexandra because of surface flooding.
