Lane closed after car crash

A section of SH8 between Cromwell and Clyde was restricted to single-lane traffic for almost three hours yesterday after a car hit a road barrier.

A police spokesman said only one car was involved in the 6.35am crash at Champagne Gully and nobody was injured.

A NZ Transport Agency spokesman said one lane of a section of the road was closed from 6.43am to 9.35am.

There was no ice on the road at the time, but it had been raining, he said.

General winter driving advice was still relevant, the spokesman said.

``Given that snow and ice are bound to be back, people need to bear in mind the usual driving to the conditions advice from the NZ Transport Agency in icy and slippery road conditions.''
