An Alexandra man who was deregistered as a teacher after an inappropriate relationship with a year 13 pupil has resigned as the president of the Alexandra Musical Society.

Trevor Goudie, vice-president of the Alexandra Musical Society, yesterday issued a short statement saying it had received and accepted the resignation of Blake Luff (27) as president, following recent reports appearing in the media.

Mr Goudie would take on the role of society president for the remainder of the current term.

Mr Luff, then 25, was head of the physical education department at Lawrence Area School at the time of the incident, which included him texting and messaging the pupil.

The New Zealand Teachers’ Disciplinary Tribunal found Luff’s behaviour amounted to serious misconduct and his registration was cancelled.
