Many Central artists chosen

Almost half of the artists selected for the upcoming Arts Gold Awards are from Central Otago and the Queenstown Lakes district.

The Alexandra event, which is held every two years, will this year feature 58 artworks, 25 of which are from Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes district artists.

They were selected from 164 entries from 122 artists nationwide.

The event is organised by a committee representing Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, the Central Otago District Arts Trust and the Central Otago Art Society.

The opening of the finalists' exhibition will be held at Central Stories on September 27, when winners of the $5000 supreme award and other awards will be announced.

The exhibition will run until November 8.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
