New classrooms for growing Central Otago schools

Three Otago primary schools are to get new classrooms to cater for roll growth.

At Cromwell Primary School this morning, associate education minister Tim Macindoe announced that $5 million of the education infrastructure money announced in the Budget would be pay for four new classrooms at Cromwell Primary, for four new classrooms at Queenstown's Shotover Primary and two new classrooms at Cromwell's Goldfields Primary.

Education minister Nikki Kaye said the schools all experienced growth in recent years.

"This new investment will provide space to accommodate both current and future growth.

“We’re committed to ensuring that children learn in environments that support them to achieve to the best of their abilities.”

Mr Macindoe said with the new investment, the Government had committed well over $5 billion towards school infrastructure.

This investment in Otago and Southland schools was part of a $456.5 million investment in education infrastructure and associated operating costs as part of this year’s budget.
