About 20 people took part in the second annual 10-10-10 Walk for Kids yesterday, hosted by the Maniototo Lions as part of a nationwide effort to raise funds for the Child Mobility Foundation.

Stephen and Kay Dunn, of Naseby, summed up the feelings of others on the walk from Ranfurly to Waipiata yesterday."It’s a great cause and a nice walk," Mr Dunn said.

"It’s a good way of doing something with other members of the community," his wife added.

Funds raised will be used to purchase Hart walkers, which combine a bracing system and walking base to support children with mobility issues.

Organiser of the Maniototo event Eric Swinbourn said the walk was "very social" and those taking part  took about one and a-half hours to reach Waipiata, travelling along the Otago Central Rail Trail.

The event is so named because the walks are 10km long, held in the 10th month of the year and start at 10am.
