Enjoying the sunshine at the annual St Bathans Fete yesterday are (from left) Cornelius van der Klundert (7), Oscar De Pelsemaeker (6), Nova van der Klundert (4) and Eva De Pelsemaeker (12), all of Dunedin, and dogs Bowie (left) and Bella.

Bowie was the object of the New Year’s Day  rescue in St Bathans, when he became trapped on a ledge in the historic St Bathans tailings for almost 18 hours after chasing a rabbit and becoming stranded on a cliff.

Bowie’s owner, Tom De Pelsemaeker, said Bowie had returned to normal life and the family was grateful to the Central Otago community for his rescue.

About 1000 people attended yesterday’s fete, which was run by the Cambrian-St Bathans branch of Rural Women New Zealand and featured about 50 stalls. Proceeds go to local projects.
