The scorching start to summer is continuing, with temperatures above 30degC in many places this afternoon.
Official MetService readings show temperatures around the 31degC mark in Alexandra, and Pukaki near Mt Cook.
Unofficial readings suggest it is hotter in several places - Galloway near Alexandra was showing 35degC around 4.15pm.
Conditions in Otago were cooler near the coast, with Dunedin and Oamaru both on 20degC.
However, Dunedin is expected to warm up over the next couple of days, hitting 25degC tomorrow and 30degC on Saturday before cooling a little on Sunday.
