Two major snowfalls in Central Otago over winter blew the Central Otago District Council's snow-clearing budget by more than 29%.
Council roading committee chairman Graeme Bell told the council this week $140,000 was budgeted this year but it cost about $198,000 to keep roads clear.
Mr Bell praised residents who cleared their local roads in some areas as the council concentrated on arterial routes.
