Rates, Oamaru harbour development, multisport recreational areas and rubbish are some of the themes to emerge in the 187 submissions the Waitaki District Council has received on its 2011-12 annual plan and budget.
The council is proposing an overall rates increase of 4.55%, although having to spend $600,000 in 2011-12 upgrading water supplies to meet government drinking water standards accounts for more than half the increase.
Of the submissions received, 53 submitters want to appear before the council to present their views. That means the council will take two days on May 18 and 19 to hear submissions.
