$5000 grant for event

The Oamaru Victorian Heritage Celebration next month has received a $5000 boost from the Waitaki District Council.

Council chief executive Michael Ross presented the grant to celebration organisers this week.

The money came from Telecom's goodwill grants paid to councils following issues earlier this year with the XT network.

The funding is in addition to the council's ongoing relationship with the celebrations.

Last year, the week-long event received a community group grant of $22,500.

Mr Ross said the celebrations, from November 17 to 21, were a real boost for tourism in Oamaru and an opportunity to celebrate and share a unique and special part of the community.
