Car theft charge

Police have charged an unemployed 41-year-old Oamaru man in relation to the theft of a Balclutha family’s vehicle in Oamaru earlier this month.

The man was arrested and charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle from the McDonald’s Oamaru car park on January 2.

The 2007 gold Toyota Camry, belonging to Balclutha mother Amber Field and her family, was filled with their belongings.

The family had stopped for lunch on January 2 about 11.30am and returned to find their car stolen.

The vehicle had been recovered in Conway St, Oamaru, and police were still searching for some items in the car.
