Motorists in Oamaru can expect delays for about three weeks next month as major work is carried out on State Highway 1 between Ribble St and Orwell St.
Work to rebuild foundations in the two northbound lanes of the highway starts on Monday and is expected to be completed on September 28, subject to weather conditions.
Traffic management will be in place and the project will involve one northbound lane being closed at all times.
In a statement, NZ Transport Agency maintenance contract manager Nick Rodger said the work would result in a better road surface for motorists.
Motorists can expect delays of up to five minutes on the highway.
Ribble, Dee, Usk, Nen, Trent, Ouse and Orwell Sts will be closed west of the highway.
Short-term parking restrictions will also be in place, as well as cycle-lane closures and limited pedestrian access across the highway.
The work will be carried out between 6am and 8pm from Monday to Saturday.
