Oamaru's Farmers Market will be raising its profile to attract more people on Sunday mornings.
The market has received a grant of almost $8000 from the Lion Foundation which, manager Deidre Nuttall said, would help pay for various capital items, including both permanent and removable signage to direct people to the market.
Large, permanent signs would be placed on the outskirts of Oamaru to bring people to the market in Oamaru's historic area on the former railway goods yard, rather than just driving through on SH1.
''So many cars just head north or south without realising that there is a wonderful part of Oamaru they are missing seeing,'' she said.
The upgrade to the Friendly Bay children's play area, the pedestrian railway bridge and all that happened in Harbour St and the Victorian Precinct would attract people to stay if they could be encouraged into the part of Oamaru not on the highway.
The market would be having a twilight market this Friday, instead of its usual Sunday morning to avoid the Oamaru Triathlon.
''Last year the road became very risky for competitors and marketgoers alike,'' Ms Nuttall said.
