Five hurt when car hits pole

Five people were treated for minor injuries after a car crashed into a power pole on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the accident in Test St, South Hill Oamaru, at 5.23pm.

A St John spokeswoman said one ambulance responded to the incident and five patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said two crews attended and both had left the scene by 5.55pm.

A police spokeswoman said it appeared one, or more, of the people who had been in the car might have fled on foot. Inquiries into the incident were ongoing, the spokeswoman said.
