Trumpet-player Mike Bickers, of Blue Bop, performs before a crowd of about 60 people at the Brydone Hotel in Thames St yesterday.

The Blue Bop show was the first of seven in seven Oamaru venues, as the three-day Harbour St Jazz and Blues festival began.

Tomorrow’s Freaky Meat show at The Penguin Entertainers’ Club and The Foxy Tones and the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra’s Sunday performance at the Loan and Merc in Harbour St are the only two of 46 performances, by more than 20 live acts, charging an entry fee.

Sunday’s programme includes a stage on Harbour St from 9.30am and a family concert picnic in the Steampunk Playground in Friendly Bay.
