Hearings closer to home wanted

The Waitaki District Council wants hearings held in Oamaru to consider submissions from North Otago received on the Otago Regional Council water quality plan change.

The Waitaki council's committee of the whole has made the request so North Otago submitters wanting to make verbal submissions do not have to travel to Dunedin.

The regional council received more than 300 submissions on its proposed plan change 6A (water quality), including from the Waitaki council.

The Waitaki council has also prepared a cross-submissions on other submissions, which was approved by the committee at a meeting this week so it could be lodged before the deadline of June 18.
