Hit-and-run case review put back to December 5

An Oamaru man charged in relation to a hit-and-run that killed Oamaru teenager Zara Joy Blackie (14) last month has been granted a second registrar's adjournment at the Oamaru District Court.

The man, who has been granted interim name suppression, was first scheduled to appear on October 31 but had been given his first adjournment for a case review that was expected to be heard yesterday.

However, that was further delayed in the form of a second registrar's adjournment and the case review is now set for December 5.

The 30-year-old faces one charge of failing to stop or ascertain injury or death after a crash.

Zara, a year 10 pupil at St Kevin's College, died after she was struck by a vehicle in Severn St, part of State Highway 1, near the intersection with Cross St, about 10.40pm on October 23.
