The North Otago A&P Show has cancelled a raft of equestrian events after the Oamaru showgrounds were saturated in Wednesday's rain.
Horse convener Elizabeth Prentice said the decision was not taken lightly but had been made after a ``thorough inspection of the main ring'' about noon on Wednesday.
All the jumping today and the hunter jumping tomorrow was cancelled, but the four-bar jumping event would still be held.
``It's absolutely gutting,'' she said, but the ground conditions in the main ring would be unsafe for competitors and their animals.
She said she had received supportive feedback after the decision.
A make-up date was possible next month, she said.
