Keep church, hall, meeting says

The Hampden community should retain its Presbyterian church and hall and use it as some form of community facility, a meeting on Wednesday decided.

There were 31 people at the meeting, called by the Otepopo-Maheno Presbyterian Parish to discuss the future of the historic church, built in 1870, and its neighbouring wooden hall.

Parish board of management chairwoman Joan Sutherland said that there was "an enthusiastic and encouraging discussion" facilitated by David Wilson.

Those at the meeting included Presbyterian and Anglican Church leaders and community members from Maheno to Moeraki.

A report on options was being prepared for the Otepopo-Maheno Parish annual meeting on September 14.
