A 22-year-old man was killed when his car crashed into a tree in the Waitaki District last night.
The accident happened about 8.55pm on the Tokarahi-Ngapara Road, and no other vehicles were involved, police say.
The deceased was the only occupant of the car.
Early inquiries indicated that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
The accident brings to holiday road toll to four.
