New website aims to capture more tourists

A new website for the Waitaki district was launched yesterday by Tourism Waitaki.

Major changes have been made to the website, aimed at increasing visits and length of stay in the district and making the area a destination, as opposed to an area travellers pass through.

Key improvements include:

• An ability to change wording on the site into any one of 52 different languages.

• A destination video showcasing key attractions.

• Itineraries targeted at key markets including families, nature lovers, those interested in culture and heritage, golf, food and wine and cycling.

• Local tales and stories to provide a real-life community focus, written by Cr Jim Hopkins.

• Touring routes linking with other South Island regions.

• More than 30 "must do's" to inspire people to stay longer and explore the district.

• A trade section for international and domestic trade contacts.

• A more developed events section including a feature events section on the home page.

• Online booking system.

• Twitter feed and social media links.

Tourism Waitaki general manager Annabel Berry said Waitaki had some incredible attractions of which the community could be proud.

"We encourage the local community to feed back ideas and images for the site," she said.

The website address is www.visitoamaru.co.nz.
