Oamaru woman jailed over aggravated robbery

An Oamaru woman has been jailed for her role in an aggravated robbery where a man was lured by a woman purporting to be a prostitute and told he would be killed if he did not comply with the offenders' demands.

In the Oamaru District Court yesterday, Nahida Ann Foulsham (21) was sentenced by Judge Joanna Maze to two years and three months in prison for her involvement in the Christchurch robbery.

Foulsham, Jackson Bull Nelson (18) and Tia Maria Frew (22), planned and carried out the crime early on July 30, 2017.

Shortly before midnight on July 29, the victim arranged with a person who purported to be an escort to meet for sex in exchange for $180 at the Redwood Hotel in Main North Rd.

That person was Frew, acting with Foulsham and Nelson.

About 12.30am, the victim met Foulsham in a room at the hotel.

She had been driven there by Frew, who waited in a nearby car park.

When the victim answered Nelson's knock on the door, Nelson entered the room, shut the door and held a knife to the victim's face.

Nelson threatened to kill him if he did not hand over all his money.

The victim gave Nelson $220.

Nelson and Foulsham then left the room and returned to the vehicle, which Frew drove away.

Foulsham's defence counsel Michael de Buyzer argued his client was less culpable than Nelson because she did not know a knife would be produced.

Judge Maze rejected that. She said Foulsham played an "essential and active'' part in the crime as she had isolated the victim and made him vulnerable.

There was a "considerable degree of planning'' involved, Judge Maze said.

In addition to being jailed, Foulsham was also ordered to pay the victim reparation of $73.44.
