Performers sought for recitals

Oamaru tenor Tom Heyes is seeking singers and musicians for a series of spring and summer classical music recitals in the landmark 1865 St Luke's Anglican Church.

The vicar, the Rev Andrea McDougall, supports the venture, saying it would be a fitting use of the historic neo-Gothic building that had ``great acoustics''.

Donations from recital audiences would go towards its upkeep. Later this year, Mr Heyes, who has performed for Radio New Zealand and at the Christchurch Arts Centre, also plans to stage a recital marking the centenary of the end of World War 1.
