Reunion to mark anniversary

A family reunion to honour the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Bulleid family in Oamaru will take place this weekend.

John Bulleid, who founded Bulleid’s Drapery Store and later built the grand Pen-y-bryn, arrived from Devon in England.

Over 50 descendants representing three generations of John Bulleid’s descendants will congregate at St Luke’s Church to celebrate.

Mr Bulleid (1851-1910) set up Bulleid’s Drapery Store soon after his arrival in 1875. It became a well-known department store, trading until it was bought by Hay’s of Christchurch in 1960, and is now the site of Farmers.
