It's looking pretty Christmassy in Oamaru, with the tree up for another year and thousands of people at the Santa parade this morning.
A Waitaki District Council initiative, the locally sourced tree was hoisted into place outside its offices the by a crane and decorated on Thursday afternoon.
Mayor Gary Kircher said new decorations were added this year, and the tree would be well watered in the lead-up to Christmas.
He believed it added to the growing festive atmosphere in Oamaru.
"We all grew up having Christmas trees and public trees.
"For a while there we didn’t have one, so most people really enjoy seeing it go up.
"I think it absolutely adds to the Christmas spirit around town."
