Two small landholdings previously used for rubbish transfer stations may be sold by the Waitaki District council.
The council's property committee this week recommended the council sell transfer stations which have been closed, at Papakaio and Duntroon.
Enfield, Duntroon and Papakaio transfer stations were closed in July 2007 and the council had no further use for the sites.
Chairman of the property committee, Cr Peter Twiss, said the council decided to retain the three sites until the three-bin recycling system request for proposals process had been completed.
"There was a possibility a prospective contractor might suggest an innovative use for them but we received no such proposals," he said.
Duntroon and Papakaio transfer stations could be sold readily but the Enfield transfer station was part of the closed landfill site and the council would need to retain it because it had resource consent responsibilities there.
