Two nominations

Two nominations have been received for a by-election to fill a vacancy for a Corriedale councillor on the Waitaki District Council.

The poll is estimated to cost ratepayers $20,000.

When nominations closed at noon yesterday, they had been received from Fuschia Creek resident Guy Percival and Oamaru resident Jock Howie.

Mr Percival stood in the local body elections last year for the two vacancies in the Corriedale ward and finished third.

He has been nominated by former councillor Kevin Malcolm and Graeme Isbister.

Mr Howie stood for the Oamaru ward last year, finishing last, and 2010, when he was second last. He has been nominated by Olga and Tjarko Edzes.

The by-election will be by postal ballot and voting will close at noon on September 22.
