The Waste Management centre in Oamaru will be closed until further notice, following a fire on Monday evening.

Emergency services spent three hours battling the blaze in Industrial Pl, north Oamaru.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said emergency services were notified of the commercial property blaze by an alarm activation at 10.45pm.

Four pumping appliances and two tankers from Oamaru, Glenavy, and Weston attended, and the last appliance left about 2am yesterday.

The spokesman said the owners knew what caused the fire, and spoke to a fire investigator but did not require his services.
