Two people who allegedly rammed a police car north of Oamaru and then fled from police have been arrested.
Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy, of Oamaru, said a 34-year-old man from Christchurch and a 29-year-old woman from Waimate were facing a raft of charges after an incident at Campbell Park Estate about 4am, in which a vehicle was used to ram a police car.
The pair also allegedly stole a Toyota Hilux on State Highway 83 (Kurow-Duntroon Rd) around 11am .
They were found in Ferry Rd, where police deployed road spikes and arrested them, at 12.40pm.
They are scheduled to appear in Dunedin District Court tomorrow.
Police were called to the estate, about 60km north of Oamaru, at 3am after a suspicious vehicle was reported by residents.
Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said when police arrived the suspects drove off.
They were spotted an hour later on one of the estate's private single-lane roads. Cornered in a dead end, they allegedly rammed the police car then crashed through three farm gates, flinging one 20 to 25m from its post, before crashing in a paddock Sgt Woodbridge said. The vehicle's occupants then fled on foot.
Although the two police officers were not injured, they were "pretty shaken up'', Sgt Woodbridge said.
Police from Oamaru and a police dog unit from Dunedin were deployed in the area to assist in search for the pair.
