Woollen hats, gloves, blankets and hot drinks were not enough to keep the hosts of Australian breakfast show Sunrise warm yesterday morning as they broadcast live from Queenstown Bay.

A crew of 60 travelled with the presenters, who today plan to broadcast from Coronet Peak.

It is the first time the entire show has been broadcast from New Zealand, with Skippers Canyon, Amisfield Winery & Bistro and Minus 5 Icebar also to feature on the show, which is viewed by an average of 3 million people a week.

Yesterday, more than 100 people - 60 of them visitors from Australia - braced themselves against the biting wind to take in the live show, which included a quick dip in the freezing waters of Lake Wakatipu by presenters David Kock and Mark Beretta and a performance by New Zealand musicians Stan Walker and Ginny Blackmore.
