The owner of a Queenstown bar has been remanded in custody until January 25.
Kelly Smith (also known as Kelly Denton) is facing six fraud charges - one for fraudulently using a credit card, one for "obtaining by deception" for a value of over $1000 and four other charges for "obtaining by deception", each with a value of less than $500 - and three charges of failing to answer bail.
In the Queenstown District Court yesterday, Judge Stephen O'Driscoll declined an application for bail, remanding Smith in custody until the next court hearing, while a pre-sentencing report is prepared.
Smith owns the Rolla Bar in Church Lane, Queenstown, which opened on November 12, 2009, as a "burlesque bar" with topless service.
The bar closed after operating for a couple of weeks, but at the time Smith stated it would reopen.
Yesterday, the court heard Smith still had six people employed.
