Two Queenstown "boy racers" had their cars seized and will appear in the Queenstown District Court in January, after allegedly racing at speeds of 100kmh in Glenda Dr on Tuesday evening.
An 18-year-old man was driving a black Honda and was found by Queenstown police to be in breach of his bail.
Another 18-year-old man was driving a grey Mazda hatchback.
Two people were watching the race.
Police were alerted by three calls from residents from about 6.30pm.
Sergeant Kate Pirovano, of Queenstown, said more than 100 people lived in the area and the racers posed a danger to residents, particularly children.
The men were charged with unnecessary displays of acceleration.
Their vehicles were impounded for 28 days.
• A 17-year-old Temuka man was allegedly assaulted by three unknown men and knocked unconscious in Man St about midnight yesterday.
He suffered grazes, a sore head and back and abdomen pain and was taken to Lakes District Hospital.
He had yet not made a complaint.
• An Ashburton woman was kicked in the chest by a man outside the World Bar at about 11pm on Tuesday.
Police inquiries were continuing into both assaults, Sergant Pirovano said.
