Camp ground, holiday park review

Six years have passed since the Queenstown Lakes District Council last undertook a review of its camping grounds and holiday parks and this week a new one was begun.

The review results will be presented to the council on February 26.

Chief executive Adam Feeley said it was timely ''in terms of what has been achieved since the original campground strategy was implemented in 2006''.

''It's the ideal time to evaluate what has been done so far and see if what drove the strategy in 2006 still holds true.''

The review will investigate whether the camping grounds still provide affordable visitor accommodation without cost to the ratepayer, whether there were alternatives to them, and their overall performance.

''The review team will be investigating systems and management innovation in holiday park accommodation in other cities and districts throughout New Zealand and seeing what can be applied here,'' Mr Feeley said.
