A former Queenstown ANZ bank employee has been arrested and charged with the theft of more than $400,000.
The 29-year-old is no longer employed by the bank and the alleged theft covered a three-year period from August 2010 to July 2013 while she was employed at the resort's branch of ANZ.
A statement released by Detective Matt Jones, of Queenstown, said the alleged offending involved setting up fictitious accounts and the woman is charged with using a computer system for a dishonest purpose and five charges of theft by a person in a special relationship.
The woman is due to make an initial appearance in the Queenstown District Court on Monday.
No further comment could be made by police as the matter was now before the court and a spokesman for ANZ said it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage.
