Explosive crime

Fireworks were used to blow up a metal mailbox in Dalefield on Sunday afternoon.

Police were notified at 1pm that a mailbox on Domain Rd had been destroyed by a "sizeable explosion". Senior Sergeant Steve Watt said the explosion was a flow-on from the previous evening's fireworks and police had no leads at this point.

• A 20-year-old Auckland man has been charged with wilful damage after he allegedly broke the door of the Just Jeans store in Queenstown early on Sunday. The man had apparently been in an argument at a taxi stand on Camp St at 3.30am and then proceeded to pull the door and break the glass. He is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court on December 3.

• A 29-year-old Italian man who was found carrying cannabis utensils atQueenstown Airport on Monday evening was arrested and is being dealt with by Immigration. Police said the man admitted to them he smoked cannabis twice a week. He was held overnight at the Queenstown police station.
