Hotel a popular choice for visitors to New Zealand

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside flew the New Zealand flag at the 2009 HotelClub Awards held in Sydney on Tuesday.

The hotel won the award for Outstanding Performer in New Zealand with the highest number of room nights booked through the HotelClub site.

The Ibis Christchurch was awarded the Best Affordable Hotel across the Pacific region.

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside general manager Jim Moore said in a statement the staff and management were very proud of the achievement.

"The hotel continues to be very popular with a wide range of guests who enjoy the central location and excellent service at reasonable prices.

"This award and the success of the hotel is directly as a result of the efforts of all staff and the focus by management to ensure that we are represented well on all online channels."

The Novotel became Queenstown's largest hotel by adding 70 rooms and taking its inventory to 273 rooms in total, following a $13 million makeover in 2008.

The 16-month redevelopment incorporated a new exterior design, renovated public areas, an upgraded restaurant and a new cafe and bar.

Hotel winners were chosen as a result of an online global survey on the HotelClub website.
