Hunters need permission, police say

Recent incidents of people hunting on land without permission have prompted police to issue a warning.

Senior Sergeant John Fookes, of Queenstown, said in a statement hunting must only take place with the permission of the owner or lawful occupier.

Police had received reports of people hunting on land between Gorge Rd and the Moonlight Track and at the weekend had twice attended incidents at Arthurs Point.

Three people were subsequently issued with trespass notices and police inquiries were ongoing.

Snr Sgt Fookes said police were also aware of complaints in the Queenstown Hill and Moke Lake areas.

It was the responsibility of the hunter to ensure they had permission to hunt on the land and anyone found unlawfully hunting could face prosecution.

Last month, police warned a 21-year-old Queenstown man who had been shooting with an air rifle near the Lake Hayes track and rowing club.
