A man involved in a vicious attack on Wanaka man Kahu Vincent at the Wanaka Night n' Day in May, has been sentenced to 8 years jail.
Leon Terence Knowles (34), of Wanaka, pleaded guilty earlier this month to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was sentenced today when he appeared in the High Court at Invercargill. He must serve a minimum of four years of his sentence in prison.
Emotional victim impact statements were read out in court.
Mr Vincent (28) suffered serious head and upper-body injuries in the assault on May 9. The father of two young children was in a coma for several weeks.
He was discharged from Dunedin Hospital on July 21 and returned home to Wanaka, where specialists are continuing to help with his recovery.
Rowles initially faced other charges, but was discharged on those when he admitted the single charge.
