Two men charged in relation to an alleged kidnapping in Queenstown late last year have denied all charges and elected trial by jury.

Pita William Hapurona Wilson (38), stonemason of Glenorchy, and Mark Junior Taylor (17), of Bluff, will reappear in the Queenstown District Court on February 23 for a case review hearing.

Wilson was yet to inform counsel in relation to the matter, duty solicitor Sonia Vidal told Judge Michael Turner yesterday, but Wilson denied charges jointly laid with Joshua Veint and Taylor of wounding Joseph Armstrong with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; kidnapping Joseph Armstrong, Andrew Lee and Casey Johnston, all on November 25 or 26 at Queenstown.

He also denied supplying class A-controlled methamphetamine between November 22 and December 3 at Queenstown.

Ms Vidal said Wilson understood media applications lodged ahead of his appearance yesterday were ''very difficult to oppose''. However, he had attended yesterday's court appearance in ''prison clothes''.

''He would have ordinarily arranged for street clothes to be available to him.

''Should he be photographed [today] that is the footage that will continue to be used throughout the case.''

Ms Vidal said Wilson felt there could be potential prejudice of his image being shown ''constantly in his prison garb'' and sought for the media applications to be adjourned until his next appearance.

However, after the media confirmed new applications would be lodged before his next appearance, Judge Turner granted the applications.

Wilson did not seek bail and was remanded in custody for a case review on February 23.

Taylor did not appear in court yesterday, but through counsel David Slater denied the four charges laid against him.

They are: with Joshua Veint and Wilson, kidnapping Joseph Armstrong, Andrew Lee, and Casey Johnston, and wounding Joseph Armstrong with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, all on November 25 or 26 at Queenstown.

He also elected trial by jury.

Veint (23), farm hand, of Glenorchy, appeared before Judge Turner in the Invercargill District Court last month and also denied charges relating to the incident.

On three kidnapping charges and one charge of assault with intent to injure, he elected trial by jury. Veint's mother, Susanne Veint (49), of Glenorchy, was earlier remanded to the Queenstown District Court on February 23.

She is charged with assisting Veint to enable him to avoid arrest, knowing he was party to an assault, between November 26 and December 3; and knowing he had committed a crime of kidnapping, assisted him to avoid arrest, on November 26 at Queenstown.

Two other women, Ashleigh Jane McMillan (22), charged with assisting Wilson to avoid arrest knowing he had committed a crime of kidnapping, and Amanda Jane Nicolls (44), manager, of Frankton, facing two charges of comforting Wilson in order for him to avoid arrest knowing he had committed the crime of kidnapping, both on December 3, at Queenstown, are both due to appear in the Queenstown District Court on February 9.

Another man, who has interim name suppression, charged in relation to the incident, is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court on January 26.
