A film worked on at a Queenstown post-production house is returning to the town for the Queenstown International Film Festival.

The sound mix for the Sundance-acclaimed documentary The Art Star and the Sudanese Twin was completed at Queenstown's boutique post-production house Action Productions late last year.

The film follows New York art-world performer and provocateur Vanessa Beecroft as she attempts to adopt two orphaned Sudanese twins.

The film was produced and directed by New Zealand film-maker Pietra Brettkelly, who described her encounter with the performance artist as "utterly fascinating".

Producing and directing the film was a "profound experience" due to the opportunity to work with such talent as Beth Tredray and Andrew Hillman at Action Productions in Queenstown, Brettkelly said.

"Action Productions was thrilled to provide facilities and work alongside BrettKelly," co-owner Julian Grimmond said.

"Because of its unique environs and strong talent base, Queenstown is not only at the leading edge of filming but also art-house post-production."
