A house fire in Fisherman's Lane, at Bob's Cove, off the Glenorchy-Queenstown Rd, on Wednesday night damaged the house's ceiling, fire risk management officer Michael Harrison said.
He said yesterday it was too early to say how the fire started.
Fire crews from Queenstown, Frankton and Glenorchy responded to the blaze after a 111 call just before 10pm, but the fire was extinguished by the house's occupants and a neighbour before the brigades arrived.
He said the ''building sustained some damage in the ceiling space''.
The house is in a total fire ban area known as the red zone.
