Police release audio from phone stolen in taxi robbery

Police hunting three men who robbed a Queenstown taxi driver have released an audio recording of a call made on the driver's stolen phone.

The call was made to the taxi company on the morning of the robbery.

The caller gives her name as Michelle Green and gives a fictitious address and phone number.

The robbery happened in the early hours of February 5 when a 24-year-old male taxi driver was attacked by three men, after driving a male passenger to the Queenstown Memorial Recreation Ground.

When the passenger left the taxi the driver went on foot to look for him at the recreation ground.

The driver was then attacked and robbed, by the passenger and two other men. Two of the men took a cash box from the taxi, which contained around $700.

Anyone who can help identify the caller can contact Matt Jones, of Queenstown Police,  on 03 441 1600.
