Dave Williams has been appointed Allied Press' Queenstown editor.

In what is a new role for the company, Mr Williams (40) will be responsible for Otago Daily Times and Mountain Scene editorial operations in Queenstown.

Mr Williams joins Allied Press after spending two years as a business reporter at the National Business Review in Auckland.

It is his second stint at the company, after spending three and a-half years as a reporter in Dunedin and Queenstown until 2001.

A six-year foray into newspaper websites followed, starting at stuff.co.nz in Wellington, before he moved to The Sun in London and on to Australia's Sydney Morning Herald.

He returned to Queenstown, and reporting, as The Press' Southern Lakes correspondent in 2007-08, before taking a Christchurch-based role.

Mr Williams will start with Allied Press in Queenstown on July 14.

Reporter Guy Williams this week joined Allied Press' editorial team in Queenstown. He has transferred from the company's Timaru Courier newspaper.

Allied Press this month consolidated Queenstown operations into its Mountain Scene office, in Athol St.

Publication of the Queenstown Times as a stand-alone newspaper will cease on July 1 this year, after which it will be published as part of the ODT.
