Spectators at the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow who did not get close enough to the action over the weekend had the chance yesterday to climb aboard for a ride.
The ''rides day'' was a new feature of the show this year and a dozen or more veteran and modern planes were busy carrying passengers from Wanaka Airport.
Tony McMaster, of Christchurch, took the opportunity of a half-hour, $2500 flight in a Soviet-era L-29 Delphin and is pictured being briefed by pilot Ian Griggs, of Christchurch.
He said afterwards he had prepared for barrel rolls over Lakes Hawea and Wanaka by having a very light, very early breakfast.
Mr McMaster's wife Liz and sister Anne Johnston waved him off and were also contemplating a jet ride at some stage in the future.
