One church's loss may be a development's gain in Arrowtown, if a resource consent application for the historic Millers Flat Church to be relocated is successful.
Built in 1871, the previous Millers Flat (Malaghans Rd) Church is being used as the St John's Presbyterian Church Hall and was moved from Speargrass Flat in 1959.
However, the St John's Restoration and Building Committee gained resource consent earlier this year to redevelop the Berkshire St church, which would include replacing the hall.
The Arrowtown Trust has made an application to Lakes Environmental, seeking to relocate the wooden building from its site to 61 Buckingham St, to share the site with the historic Adams Cottage.
The trust is also seeking a change of use for the building, enabling it to be used to potentially house an artist gallery, with operating hours from 7am to 10pm.
