Shotover Country developers do not expect appeal

Shotover Country developers are confident they will push through the appeal process hassle-free and begin construction of the $300 million development in 18 months' time.

Neil McDonald, of Clark Fortune McDonald, speaking of behalf of the Lady's Mile partnership, said he and the developers were not anticipating an appeal in the 30-day window, which started last Wednesday.

Last Tuesday, the Queenstown Lakes District Council strategy committee approved the Shotover Country development, to be built between the Shotover River and Lake Hayes Estate. The 120ha site would have room for 750 new homes, and small-scale retail outlets.

Mr McDonald said the development would have "great deal of similarities" to its neighbour, Lake Hayes Estate. There would be more room for unit and affordable housing and it was hoped a school would be built.

An access road would be built connecting Shotover Country with Lake Hayes Estate, bringing the combined population to Arrowtown's 2400.

Construction is expected to begin by March 2013 or "hopefully sooner". The resource consent process, development planning, subdivision, engineering design, roading and sewerage will all hold up the building date.

"There will be a few technical issues to go through with the council," Mr McDonald said.
