Still waiting for report

Conservation Minister Nick Smith is still waiting for the independent report on the financial viability of the proposed $200 million Fiordland monorail.

Dr Smith announced in December that he had ordered the report and at the time expected to receive it in February.

Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Dr Smith said the report was expected in March and there was no time frame as to when a final decision would be made.

In a statement in December, Dr Smith said the monorail, proposed by Riverstone Holdings Ltd, was ''the most significant concession ever sought on public conservation land and the longest monorail in the world''.
